Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to support a mission-focused customer in Chantilly, VA. This role supports technical risk assessment and mitigation activities across a broad range of enterprise technologies, including IT systems and networks, mobile and wireless networks, cloud-based computing, network management platforms, communication protocols, scripting and programming products, configuration scripts, and IT hardware and software products.

The Systems Engineer will be responsible for designing, deploying, and optimizing a secure, scalable, high-performance VMware Horizon-based Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environment using vSphere and Cisco HyperFlex. This includes support for Android emulation, golden image management, GPU virtualization, automation workflows, infrastructure optimization, and secure systems engineering practices.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, optimize, and maintain a secure VMware Horizon-based VDI platform.

  • Support the architecture and administration of VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, and VMware Horizon environments.

  • Manage and optimize Cisco HyperFlex hyperconverged infrastructure, including compute, storage, and network stack components.

  • Design, manage, and optimize standardized golden images for Windows 11 and Linux virtual desktops.

  • Create and maintain secure, performance-optimized virtual desktop images.

  • Implement GPU virtualization to enhance the performance of Android emulators within the VDI environment.

  • Develop and deploy automation scripts and workflows to streamline virtual desktop provisioning, deployment, updates, and maintenance.

  • Support technical risk assessments involving IT systems, networks, cloud technologies, communication protocols, hardware, software, and configuration scripts.

  • Evaluate, extract, and analyze relevant data in support of technical risk assessment activities.

  • Support web development, software coding, and online infrastructure maintenance as needed.

  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, engineering, and mission stakeholders to improve system performance, security, and reliability.

  • Document systems engineering processes, procedures, configurations, and technical recommendations.

  • Participate in audits, compliance reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives related to systems engineering and security posture.

Required Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with VMware Horizon, vSphere, ESXi, and vCenter.

  • Hands-on experience with hyperconverged infrastructure, particularly Cisco HyperFlex, in support of VDI environments.

  • Hands-on experience supporting server environments, including:

    • Windows Server

    • Active Directory

    • Group Policy Objects

    • DNS

    • DHCP

  • Linux administration experience, including CentOS and Ubuntu.

  • Demonstrated experience with Teradici technology and PCoIP protocol optimization.

  • Strong troubleshooting, systems administration, infrastructure optimization, and technical documentation skills.

  • Ability to support secure, mission-critical enterprise environments.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience collaborating with cybersecurity teams in secure enterprise or government environments.

  • Experience identifying and implementing improvements to network and endpoint security.

  • Experience supporting continuous improvement initiatives to strengthen overall security posture.

  • Experience providing technical training, user support, or operational guidance.

  • Experience participating in audits, compliance reviews, or systems engineering assessments.

  • Experience with scripting or automation tools such as PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar technologies.

  • Experience supporting web development, software coding, data extraction, or online infrastructure maintenance.
